Meeting Air Quality Goals in Transportation

01 Sep 2015

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has developed a draft report containing the results from the statewide model for future CO2 emissions and the informational analysis for future emissions of ozone precursor pollutants. A copy of the complete report can be downloaded through the following link: Meeting Air Quality Goals in Transportation.

This report documents recent progress made by MassDOT and the MPOs in meeting air quality goals established through state and (currently former) federal regulations applicable to Massachusetts. It consists of two parts: 1) A “progress report” that documents future carbon dioxide (CO2) emission estimates from the transportation sector as part of meeting greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals established through the Commonwealth’s Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA), and 2) An informational analysis of future vehicle emissions of ozone precursor pollutants – formerly a federal “air quality conformity” requirement for areas of Massachusetts.

MassDOT is currently seeking comments on Section 1 of the document. The comment period will run for 15-days (closing September 16th). Comments can be sent to planning@dot.state.ma.us or Office of Transportation Planning 10 Park Plaza Suite 4150 Boston MA 02116.
