Economic Development

PVPC's Economic Development section works with members of the public and private sectors to strengthen the present and future economic health of our communities and of the region as a whole. The Economic Development section’s key goal is to advance and support the growth of a competitive regional economy as we progress through the 21st century.

Environment and Land Use

PVPC's Environment and Land Use section works to protect the environment of the Pioneer Valley region, promote economically and environmentally healthy communities where people can walk and bicycle safely and conveniently, facilitate our transition to clean, safe, sustainable energy, promote smart growth and reduced urban sprawl, catalyze regional action to address climate change and food insecurity, promote understanding of and access to green infrastructure, plan for and create resilient communities, assist municipalities with Master Planning, keep our rivers and streams clean, assure local zoning regulations to achieve community visions, protect our water supplies, and encourage sustainable land use. Working with municipalities, state and federal agencies, community organizations, non-profit groups, and private sector partners, the Environment and Land Use section promotes local action, regional cooperation, and state initiatives leading to wise use of our resources.

Environment and Land Use staff provide technical expertise and clear guidance that blends community goals with a regional vision to maintain community character, protect the environment, promote smart growth, address the needs of the underrepresented, and improve quality of life throughout the Pioneer Valley region.

GIS/Graphics

PVPC's GIS/Graphics section provides maps, graphics, presentation materials, and report production services for PVPC staff, member communities, and public and private sector clients. The GIS/Graphics section has expertise in all manner of digital products, including GIS mapping, digital file conversion, desktop publishing, pre-press production, and presentation materials.

Regional Information and Policy Center

PVPC's Regional Information and Policy Center (RIPC) provides comprehensive demographic, economic, and statistical analysis services to the departments of the Commission, member cities and towns, and various public and private sector entities. The RIPC has one of the most comprehensive and accessible collections of demographic and economic data in the Pioneer Valley region, offering this information in numerous forms and publications, both printed and digital.

Transportation

PVPC's Transportation section works to create and maintain a safe, dependable, environmentally sound transportation system that promotes liveable communities and the efficient movement of people and goods throughout the region. The Transportation section offers planning, analysis, and data collection services in a number of areas: traffic, transit, congestion management, bicycle/pedestrian planning, pavement management, and in-depth transportation studies.

Transportation section staff work with local, state, and federal agencies and private carriers on a wide array of projects, carrying out federally mandated planning activities on behalf of the region's 43 cities and towns using federal and state funds, and actively seeking competitive grants for specific tasks.
