PVPC Organization & Structure

Commissioners & Alternates

PVPC is composed of representatives from each of its 43 member communities. Each community is represented by two delegates: a commissioner, generally a member of the municipal planning board, and an alternate commissioner appointed by the city or town's chief elected official.

The full commission meets four to six times per year. Commissioners and alternates attend regularly scheduled PVPC meetings; communicate back to their municipalities information about PVPC services, initiatives, and advocacy; and act as liaisons between their communities and PVPC for local technical assistance, information, and other pertinent matters.

See full list of Commissioners and Alternates here.

Executive Committee

In addition, the full Commission annually elects a nine-member Executive Committee, which generally meets on a monthly basis to take action on budget items, to authorize expenditures, and to review personnel issues.

Staff

PVPC’s staff of planning professionals works with commissioners and many public agencies and officials to define and direct solutions to area-wide problems that cannot be solved by member communities working alone. Typical projects that illustrate PVPC’s role are cleanup of the Connecticut River, programming major transportation system improvements, managing the region’s strategic economic plan, and compiling and analyzing relevant demographic information.

Departments

PVPC planning staff work in six different departments, including Community Development, Economic Development, Environment & Land Use, GIS & Graphics, Transportation, and the Regional Information and Policy Center. See a summary of the focus areas for each department's work.
