THIS WILL BE A VIRTUAL MEETING

Hosted by the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission

Co-Sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, Franklin Regional Council of Governments, Massachusetts Historical Commission, and Preservation Massachusetts

Topic: Introduction to Historic Preservation Planning for Small Towns

The meeting will be held on ZOOM and include an overview of Historic Preservation Planning and three case studies which will consider preplanning, preservation plans and plan implementation, in communities where budgets are small and town staff support is not available:

Overview:

Jennifer Doherty, Local Government Programs Coordinator for the Massachusetts Historical Commission, will present an overview of Historic Preservation Planning, focusing on how identification is key, but tailored to best practices for smaller towns with limited budgets and town staff support.

Case Studies:

Chesterfield Historical Commission: Dee Cinner and Eileen McGowan, of the Chesterfield Historical Commission, will discuss how they came to create their Draft Chesterfield Historic Preservation Plan outline and notes as a starting point for local preservation planning and what they've accomplished since this first step.  They will discuss what led them to put this together, how it has helped with local preservation planning efforts and what they see as next steps.

Leverett Historical Commission: Leverett Historical Commission member Susan Lynton and consulting historian Pleun Bouricius will present on the Leverett Town Wide Survey and how the information gathered has informed the LHC's work.

Lenox Historical Commission: Olga Weiss from the Lenox Historical Commission will present regarding the Town's 2018 preservation plan and will discuss progress they have made in the preservation priorities identified in this plan.
