2020 Update to the Regional Transportation Plan for the Pioneer Valley

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will hold a public meeting for purpose of environmental consultation on the 2020 update to the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), as part of the formal public participation program under the Pioneer Valley region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The RTP outlines the direction of transportation planning and improvements while addressing the impacts the regional transportation system has on our mobility, public safety, environment, and quality of life. The long-range plan concentrates on both existing needs and anticipated future deficiencies in our transportation infrastructure, presents preferred strategies to alleviate transportation problems, and creates a schedule of regionally significant projects that are financially constrained. All state- and federally-funded transportation improvement projects and planning studies must be included in a conforming regional transportation plan. As a result, the RTP plays a vital role in the advancement of transportation projects and policies for the region.

Environmental consultation will focus on the transportation improvement projects anticipated to be included as part of the Draft RTP.  Attendees will have the opportunity to review a series of maps depicting proposed transportation improvement projects and their proximity to key environmental resource areas. Transportation staff members will be available to address questions and comments on proposed transportation improvement projects and the future of transportation in the Pioneer Valley.

Interested parties are invited to attend the environmental consultation on May 28, 2019 anytime between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the office of the PVPC, 60 Congress Street, 2^nd Floor, Springfield, MA.
