Town of Monson to Hold Second Public Engagement Event to Update Hazard Mitigation Plan

30 Nov 2015

Monson residents are invited to provide further comments on the update of the Monson Hazard Mitigation Plan Wednesday, December 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Monson Town Hall, 110 Main Street, Room 112. The plan is being updated by the Town's Hazard Mitigation Committee with assistance from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) and is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). All members of the public, representatives from surrounding communities, and businesses are welcome to attend the event.

This planning effort is being undertaken to help the Town of Monson assess the risks faced from natural hazards, identify action steps that can be taken to prevent damage to property and loss of life, and prioritize funding for mitigation efforts. A mitigation action is any action taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from hazards.

This meeting follows a public meeting held in October that included an introduction to the hazard mitigation planning process and a summary of existing mitigation initiatives. This meeting will present the proposed action steps developed by the hazard mitigation committee. PVPC and town staff will be available to answer questions and listen to comments from the public.
