"Learning About Your Lakes" Event Planned

22 May 2014

May 22, 2014--The Town of Belchertown, members of the Tri Lakes Association, and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will collaborate on a “Learning about Your Lakes” event Saturday, May 31, 10:00 a.m. to noon at Town Beach on Lake Arcadia.

The event will feature six stations where lake residents can learn about how to ensure continued health for their lakes while enjoying coffee and donuts, socializing with neighbors, and entering a raffle to win a prize. Learning stations will include water quality of the lake, better land care, establishing good buffers, strategies to capture and reuse stormwater, forthcoming study of plants in the lakes, and connecting to the sewer system.

This event follows water quality sampling work last year to help evaluate Metacomet and Arcadia lakes. It is part of a project that is made possible by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission through the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection under the 604(b) Water Quality Management Planning program.
