“The base funding is incredibly important. The RTAs know what they’re getting from local governments, and they have a pretty good idea what they’re getting from the feds, but the state funding is always a wild card,” says Patrick Beaudry, the Manager of Public Affairs for the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission.

Hinds said he is particularly proud of the $100,000 given to the Franklin Regional Council of Governments. That group, joined by the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission and Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, will team up with the DCR to create maps for mountain biking trail networks at Greylock Glen, Kenneth Dubuque Memorial State Park in Hawley and Robinson State Park in Feeding Hills.

ValleyBike Share began this summer with 500 electrically assisted smart bicycles deployed to 50 docking stations in the five cities and towns. Users can buy memberships or rent the bikes.

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) is partnering with the Agawam Historical Commission to utilize a $72,000 grant to bring the town’s recordkeeping in compliance with 21st century Massachusetts Historical Commission requirements. The town council and Community Preservation Act Committee approved of the grant last spring.
