Free Organic Lawn Care Workshop Scheduled

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, in partnership with the Town of Southwick, will host a workshop on organic lawn care as part of the Greenscapes Massachusetts program.

“Organic Lawn Care: Making the Transition” will explain organic lawn care practices and how to transition away from lawn care chemicals to develop excellent soil health for thriving lawn and plant growth. The presentation by Anne Capra of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will be Tuesday, March 23, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Land Boards Meeting Room of Southwick Town Hall.

Early spring lawn care is important to achieve a healthy, weed-free lawn for the rest of the season. Caring for your new or existing lawn by using organic practices builds soil health, further improving the conditions for a healthy, weed-free lawn. This workshop will explain organics, offer step-by-step instructions, present diagnostic tools and techniques for correct fertilization, give prevention and control strategies for weeds and pests, explain smart irrigation practices, make seasonally appropriate organic land care recommendations, offer product recommendations, and provide a list of local resources for products and services.

Up to five lawn care owners will be sponsored to transition to an organic management program. Sponsorship will include free technical assistance throughout the season and a cost share for materials and organic land care products. You must attend this workshop to sign up and be eligible for this offer.
