Regional Leaders to be Honored at PVPC's 48th Annual Meeting
The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will honor four area leaders for their contributions to the region and the commonwealth at large at its 48th Annual Meeting Thursday, June 10, 6:00 p.m. at the Keefe Campus Center at Amherst College.
Regional Recognition Awards will be presented to:
Richard Chandler, Western Region Field Staff for the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, for his work with Pioneer Valley farmers, town officials, and others to preserve farmlands under the Agricultural Preservation Restriction program.
Dan Hellyer, Building Inspector for the Town of East Longmeadow, for educating local municipalities about energy efficiency achievable under the Stretch Code, an optional amendment to the Massachusetts Building Code that has since been adopted by Springfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Easthampton, Belchertown, and Palmer. All six were among the first in the commonwealth to achieve Green Communities designation.
Rich Hubbard, Executive Director of the Franklin Land Trust and former Director of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources Agricultural Preservation Restriction program, for his past and present work preserving farmland throughout the Pioneer Valley region.
Donald J. Schmidt, Director of Smart Growth Planning Emeritus of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), for his 39 years of exceptional public service at DHCD, including his generous technical assistance to Pioneer Valley communities and PVPC staff with zoning, subdivision, and other land use and housing regulations such as the Chapter 40R Smart Growth housing program.
PVPC officers and at-large Executive Committee members for 2010-2011 will be elected during the meeting.
