Economic Development Seminar to Explore Downtown Revitalization
Downtown development and revitalization will be the focus of an economic development capacity building seminar Thursday, September 6, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at T. D. Banknorth Conference Center in Springfield.
The seminar, Creating Great Downtowns and Neighborhoods, will discuss sustainable principles applicable to downtown development and revitalization projects. Keynote speaker David Milder, President of Kew Gardens, NY-based DANTH Inc., will share his insights on how to use niches as the focus for downtown organization, promotion, and recruitment. He will also share unique examples from cities across the United States with downtowns that are prospering by using niche strategies as part of their revitalization efforts.
Previous seminars in this series have focused on cultural economic development, site selection, and brownfields redevelopment. The series is sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, the Plan for Progress, and Western Massachusetts Electric Company. Co-sponsors are Massachusetts Economic Development Council and the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts.
There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to register, contact PVPC’s Samalid Hogan at (413) 781-6045 or shogan@pvpc.org.
