Public Forum to Discuss Plan for Route 112 Scenic Byway

A public meeting will be held Thursday, January 15, 6:30 p.m. at the Worthington Town Hall to describe the Scenic Byway designation of Route 112 and to discuss the draft working papers that will become the corridor management plan for the Byway.

The draft working papers, which can be viewed at www.pvpc.org/activities/landuse-rte112.shtml, are the product of a team effort by residents from the towns of Goshen, Cummington, Worthington, Huntington, and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC). The working papers identify and describe the scenic, natural, recreational, historic, cultural, and transportation resources of the Byway and make recommendations to enhance and preserve these resources.

Completion of a corridor management plan will make the region eligible to apply for National Scenic Byway monies that can be used for enhancing recreational access; improving Byway facilities, such as overlooks and resources for pedestrians and bicyclists; protecting scenic, historic, recreational, cultural, and natural resources; developing and providing interpretive information about the Byway and its resources; and marketing the Byway region for tourism.
