NORTHAMPTON – According to the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, ridership on the Vermonter train has been strong in Northampton. While the number of riders is expected to increase in November and December, construction could limit that increase.

There’s been ongoing rail work between Hartford and New Haven, limiting the number of Amtrak trains operating. The construction is being done for a new commuter rail service which will link New Haven, Hartford and Springfield and is expected to start operation in January of 2018.

The Pionner Vallley Planning Commission is working to give riders more travel options, such as same-day travel to New York City.
